Mission
The Awareness Project is dedicated to enhancing the health and resiliency of the Cape Cod community by promoting the practice of mindfulness through art, and by making our programming accessible to all.
What We Do
The Awareness Project, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed in 2019 that promotes mindfulness through art. We produce classes, workshops, performances and presentations, which interpret and explore mindfulness as a practice of self-care. We make mindfulness accessible by offering our workshops, performances and presentations free of charge. Although located in Sandwich, we have no physical space, no paid staff, no debt, and as a result, an extremely low overhead.
What is Mindfulness & Awareness?
Mindfulness is the awareness that emerges while paying attention, on purpose in a non-judgmental manner, in the present moment. (Jon Kabat-Zinn)
While mindfulness brings a sharp focus, awareness sees the whole picture. Awareness centers us by allowing us to step back and observe each thought, emotion, and physical stimulus without letting any or all of them take over our consciousness.
Our Programming
We educate and engage by hosting workshops, which introduce attendees to mindfulness practices integrated with the arts such as journaling, drumming, visual arts, and movement such as mindful walking, yoga and Qigong.
We entertain and educate by producing short plays, staged readings and puppet shows, which dramatize mindful and non-mindful behavior.
We engage the community by hosting events such as our annual Mindfulness Arts Festival, which is a free family-friendly event that includes workshops for all ages, vendors, live music, and craft-making.
